Fashion Week Favorite: Rachel Roy

Hi sisters!
While I am no expert fashiononista (a la` Megan), I did find myself drooling over a few shows last week and cursing my fashion industry friends who've spent the last few days popping in and out of tents for work. I think New York is rubbing off on me more and more every year :)

My drool inducing favorite was Rachel Roy. Instead of holding her show in the Mercedes Benz tents this year, she broke the mold and showed her line on the balcony of the Avery Fischer Hall, which seemed the appropriate way to highlight her back-to-the basics style. My friend Mo introduced me to this designer last year and I've been loving her ever since. I adore her soft, neutral color palette and her simple, elegant designs.

And check out those freakin' amazing shoes!!! My feet would like to be their new best friends.

Wish you were here,
Kathleen

P.S. Nathan and I inside the tents two years ago (back right), maybe not my best look ...

Tied to Neon

Sisters,

I NEVER know what to do with neon, but I loved these photos from Zanita Zanita and they make neon way more accessable for me.  I think the necklace is a great concept, but maybe a bracelet is more fitting for me.  I really love the belt, it uses a carabiner as the clasp...such an easy DIY!   I might have to make a trip to some of favorite old outdoor stores and see what I can come up with.

Here is to trying new things!

R-O-C-K In the USA

Sissies-

While perusing Vogue.com I came across Balmain 2012 Resort collection and fell in love with the their interpretation of Rocker Glam. Here are the looks that I love, they are edgy but still have just the right amount of femininity mixed in....

Love the sequin jacket!

Glitter tuxedo pant! Elvis would be so proud ;)

I really love the color Mint right now and here it softens the glam look

Now I just need a place to wear all of these fun looks. Vegas anyone?

A Poet You Should Know

Sisters,

Last Monday I forced you to read an article, this week I am begging you to spare a few minutes to watch Joshua Bennett perform his poetry at President Barack Obama's Evening of Poetry and Music at the White House (that is a really long event name...wooh).  He is a crazy talented poet with some serious credentials.  Joshua has recited his original poetry at events such as the Sundance Film Festival, the NAACP Image Awards and The Kennedy Center's "American Playlist".

He is also a very dapper dresser.  He is currently studying in London and whoisbobbparris snapped this photograph of him.  Not too bad, huh?  Also, In her post about Joshua she references Street Etiquette,  which you should wander to sometime soon.

Happy Monday!

Hats off to Summer!

Girls!

With the summer quickly progressing I sadly have to say I haven’t made it to the pool or beach as much as I would like, but every time I have gone I can not get over the amount of adorable big floppy hats that I see. As you all know I have never been one to shy away from the sun but whether you are protecting your face from the elements or just going for a daytime chic look, nothing tops off your summer wardrobe better than one of these great hats. All shapes and sizes will do, but I have to say I have my eye on Blake Lively's entire look, including the wine bottle popping out of her purse.  Great look for a summer picnic!

XOXO from the Chi,

Continuing with Color

Sisters,

I have become OBSESSED with this pink blazer from Zara:

This shade of pink, expecially paired with navy blue, calls out to my inner prep...and I love it! My summer wardbrobe is filled with basic sundresses, tailored jeans and lots of  white v-neck t-shirts. This blazer is the perfect pick me up to create structured office options or a preppy date-night outfit. In case pink doesn't float your boat, here are a few of my other bright blazer tempations from Zara.

Happy Monday from summertime Chi!

To Chop or Not to Chop

Girls,

After 24 years of being on this planet, its official...I think I may have hit my mini quarter-life crisis mode.  I know, I know ...you are thinking, wait that is supposed to happen at 25! But kids, it has happened a year early.  Among many things that are running through this OLD lady's head, the two major ones are a change of location and change of hair do!

Let's be honest change of location may not be in the cards just yet (although watch out Kathleen and Megan, both NYC and San Fran are on my radar), but I have a strong desire to chop off my long locks to join my chic sisters below.

What do you think?  Could I pull it off?

 Much Love!

A McQueen Dream

Sisters,
I went to the Alexander McQueen exhibit at the Met this weekend and it was AMAZING. I know very little about fashion (sorry Megan - I try) or art (again, sorry Christina - I try) but I do know that whatever I witnessed on Sunday was brilliant. McQueen has this beautiful ability to push political, social, and economic boundaries while also respecting the traditions of fashion that he's grown up and out of. You walk from tailored jackets, past dominatrix inspired head pieces and clothing, tartan pants, a Kate Moss filled hologram box, and end up staring in awe at a line up of space-aged goodness. The exhibit was curated to tell us a story, the one of McQueen, but also the one most of us hope to have. Nathan walked away inspired to pick up his history books and delve into the Jacobite Rebellion, and inspired to use history to help him create more and to create better. I wanted to come home and write something. A poem, a story, anything. I just wanted to throw my hat in the ring, or at least throw it so that the brim of my hat skims the artistic ring McQueen is in the middle of.

Some of my favorites are below...

For the men in our lives

Hi sisters,
I am loving Ernest Alexander's spring men's accessories! This collection is near and dear to my heart. A few of my friends have had a hand in it, designing for him, standing behind the camera, and in front of it.  Ernie started by making men's bags out of his home in the garment district, and then trying his luck selling the bags at small shops in New York. He is figuring out a way to do something he loves and work for himself, speaking of which ... Megan, when are we starting DawsonMade?

The images above are some of the shots Eric snapped for the Spring collection that are featured on the website. Aren't they lovely? Our friend Gabe is the model in the first picture on the left and does that guy in the middle look familiar?

My favorite Ernest Alexander items are their Wax Rucksacks, their Wax Overnight Bags, and their Forster Chambray Necktie.

Love from the Big Apple :)

It's Black and White

Sissies-

I came across this Vogue Paris editorial and was enamored. As much as I LOVE color, black and white seems so refreshing right now.

Totally Outrageous!

Sisters,

Remember this pretty lady? I have no idea what made me think about our childhood obsession with Jem, but in my recent internet musings I found so my videos of Jem!  Growing up we couldn't get enough of her...and why wouldn't we love her? She had ambition, showed leadership, knew how to accessorize, and could wear a pink dress better than anybody.

We all know that I don't typically wear pink unless it's a cardigan, but I am happy to live vicariously through you! You should totally channel Jem and buy one of these adorable dresses from ShopBob.

Just in case Jem doesn't convince you, check out Blake Lively at the 2009 CFDA Awards.  One of you needs to purchase a pink dress for the summer!

Much love from Chi-town!

Eric and Amy

Sisters,
In honor of the Royal Wedding I did not watch today (though I have done a fair amount of internet stalking!) I want to share with you a video from one of my favorite weddings I've ever been to. Remember Amy? Last October she and her husband Eric got hitched on a farm in Cold Spring, NY. Check out their proposal story told in polaroids here and read about their love story here.

I will post with photos and the details of the wedding another day, but watch this beautiful video our friend Adam made for them ...

love from the east coast :)

Kate's Dress

Sisters,
I know I said I wasn't going WillKate crazy over here, but I couldn't resist looking at pictures and videos of the wedding over breakfast this morning. And just when I thought I could care less, I see her dress! It's perfect. What do you think?

Read this if you'd like to know more about how the dress was made and all of the intricate detailing :)

Spring Jeans: trimmed, tailored, and rolled

Sisters- As the weather gets warmer I am trying to figure out the perfect length for cropped jeans. Three of my favorite fashion blogs recently provided some inspiration.  These ladies have mastered the perfect length by trimming, rolling, or tailoring their jeans. I love the look in the Sartorialist photograph - I just might be wearing rolled jeans and wedges this weekend.

Emerson Made

Sissies-

Have you heard of this adorable company? I am kind of obsessed with it/her right now. Emerson decided to leave the craziness of NYC and move to the country to start her company. Her clothes/accessories are pretty amazing! The idea of packing up and moving to a farm to start my own little brand sounds rather lovely right about now.

Check it out... I know you guys will love it! DawsonMade, anyone?

Frienship Bracelets Revisited

Sissies-

Remember how I posted about how friendship bracelets were making a comeback? Well, my friend and I bought a few while we were out shopping the other week. We both were sporting our look on Friday night!

Yellow Fever

Sissies-

As you both know, I have a yellow obsession. It could be the ugliest thing in the world, but if it comes in yellow... I'll buy it.

I was inspired to share my love of yellow after my friend Katie recently posted a lot of great yellow inspiration!

Here are some of the MANY yellow images I have collected...

Hats off

Sisters,
I'm in love with this menswear trend I'm seeing all over the streets and am desperately seeking a hat like the one above. I'm going to scour some vintage and thrift shops in my neighborhood for one this weekend. Do you think I can pull it off?

My friend Des definitely can...

I love this hat on her!

How are you wearing scarves?

Dawson's love scarves! They add color, dress up an outfit, and serve as the perfect accessory for traveling.  However, I typically wear the same 5 scarves and I wear them all the same way. So here are a few famous ladies to get the creative juices flowing: I will be taking notes from SJP's and Rachel Bilson's wrap around.

Love from the Windy City!
