Our America

Sisters,
Have you seen Our America with Lisa Ling yet? It's on the O network (gotta love Opy), Tuesdays at 10/9c - but if you don't have cable (like me) you can watch it online, they post the episodes after they've aired. My friend told me about it last weekend and I love it! I've always liked Lisa Ling and so far I think this is some of her best work. It's a really well produced show chronicling some of the most controversial topics in America today. It's not perfect (as most news shows aren't), but it's thought - provoking and bringing some important conversations to the forefront.

Check it out over here.

Some rings around our fingers

Sisters,
I'm in love with catbird in Williamsburg, Brooklyn! They have unique and fresh jewelry. Their rings are my favorite, but not in my budget right now. So... I mainly just browse the site and daydream of stacks of their twig and branch rings on my finger. I think these would make brilliant wedding bands or engagement rings, don't you?

In fact, my friend just got engaged and this is her ring...

Isn't it beautiful? They've just renovated their store and I can't wait to head to the opening next week!

Take me out to the ball game

Sisters,
You may be far from home, but I know I can count on you to cheer for our one and only Chicago Cubs. The season starts Friday and we all know grandma will be listening to WGN radio.  If only we could convince Wrigley to reinstate Ladies Night and follow in grandma's footsteps!

Don't forget to tune in and cheer for the Loveable Losers!

If J. Simps can do it...

Sissies-

If J. Simps can build a fashion empire, I'm pretty sure anyone can. Her company is set to make $1BILLION next year! I bet Nick is really kickin himself....

xoxoxo Lots of love from the Left Coast

Itch to Switch

Sissies-
I have the itch to switch up my living room. See below and tell me what you think! As you can see I centered the room around our current couch and the original artwork from Matthew's Grandma.

I tried to keep everything pretty affordable so that this could be something that I can ACTUALLY do.

Spring Time in Texas

Sisters,
O.P.I just came out with their new line inspired by Texas. Meet my new favorite nail color for spring, Sand Antonio. I know, I know, it's another beige - but you know how afraid of color I am. Plus, neutral nail colors are in for Spring according to refinery29

Happy Monday!

The start of our adventure

Dear Sisters,
Nathan and I have started to plan our big adventure for this summer and we are LOVING these little guidebooks by Knopf. They are small enough to bring with us when we backpack, have convenient fold out maps of different sections of the featured city, and non-touristy suggestions for where to stay and what to do. They have guides for most major cities all over the world. Plus, they're so cute, right?

You can buy them on Amazon or at Barnes and Noble.

Our brother and Paula Deen

Sissies,
Robbie's blog - Paula Deen Riding Things - was in In Touch Weekly this week. First Jimmy Fallon, then the Today Show, and now side by side with one of the Kardashians.

Our little brother is internet famous :)

Long Skirts for a Long Winter

Sisters,

It has been a solid winter in Chicago: January was frigid, February brought snow thunder and record breaking amounts of snow, and now we are in March and barely breaking 35 degrees.  I am still stuck in the winter-wear I pulled out in November and desperately trying get creative with the heavy sweaters I wish I could pack away.  Inspired by a few posts from The Satoriarlist and Hanneli Mustaparta, I am convinced that a long pleated skirt just might be the answer.

Before I venture down this road with my wardrobe, I have set up a few rules for myself. First, stick to natural colors and fabrics. Second, add structure to my top half by layering a coat, vest, or light weight blazer over the sweater.  Third, wear this look with heals that give me some decent height (I am short and so a long flowing skirt has the potential to make me look short and stubby).

I will keep you posted on the hunt for the perfect skirt and my attempt at the look!

I'll take some flowers with my coffee

Sisters,
My friend Amy made these sweet little flower "pots" to put on her table for our Saturday brunch. Aren't they cute? It's so easy; she just took an old coffee can, spray painted it a matt white color, and arranged some spring flowers. Even those of us that are craft challenged can do this!

Baked French Toast

Sisters,
It's been nasty and cold here in NYC too. This morning I woke up to sunshine, but it was 29 degrees! I headed to a brunch at my friend's apartment, and decided to make some Baked French Toast. I figured I should take advantage of the fact that it's STILL BELOW 30 at the end of March and make something heavy, buttery, and just plain not good for you. Plus I added some bacon crumbles to the top. Soon enough it will be above 50 and my diet will mainly consist of leafy greens, I might as well say goodbye to winter with a bang, right?

Remember mom's monkey bread? This tastes just like that, but takes way less prep time! The recipe is below :)

Ingredients
5 cups bread cubes
4 eggs
1 1/2 cups milk
1/4 cup white sugar, divided
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon margarine, softened
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Top Layer
5 strips of crumbled bacon
1/2 cup of maple syrup

Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Lightly butter an 8x8 inch baking pan.
Line bottom of pan with bread cubes.
In a large bowl, beat together eggs, milk, 2 tablespoons sugar, salt and vanilla. pour egg mixture over bread.
Dot with margarine; let stand for 10 minutes.
Combine remaining 2 tablespoons sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, and bacon crumbles then sprinkle over the top.
Bake in preheated oven about 45 minutes, until top is golden.
Layer the top with the 1/2 cup of syrup and place in oven for 5 more minutes.

Spring Fever

Dear Sissies,
I am just sick of this cold, rainy, and depressing weather. Here in SF we are bundled in our thick sweaters and strapping on our rain boots. Instead of rubber shoes, I’d rather be wearing….

We are all "growed up"

We are three sisters living in three separate cities, San Fransisco, Chicago, New York. When we were younger we thought that by the time we were close to 30, we'd have it all figured out - that we would be all growed up. Our 6 year old selves never expected that growing up might mean moving away from each other. Our passions have led us very far away from one another, but we hope this blog can keep us connected as we still try to figure out what it means to be growed up.
